It has been almost eight months since we moved into our new building and I transitioned into my new role of Director of Strategic Partnerships. My previous position as Director of Case Management at the Heart Ministry Center, prepared me well for this new endeavor, which includes overseeing our volunteers. Although I have been here over four years, I was not fully aware of the breadth and depth of our volunteer program. We have always had several churches, businesses, schools, and other groups down to volunteer.
Like everyone else dealing with the pandemic, we have had to adjust the way we do business. Before the pandemic, our volunteers played an important role in the operations of the Center, due in part to serving so many families. Now you, our volunteers are even more essential to our day-to-day operations as we are seeing more than 900 people per week come through our curbside pantry. We could not distribute the more than 3 million pounds of food per year if not for them being here daily.
After coming to our pantry, I received an email from Becky wanting to share her recent experience. ”I just wanted to say “thanks” for all the food pantry did for my Humana client this morning. Your volunteers were friendly and efficient and loaded my SUV up in no time. I don’t know how I found a time that had no wait, but somehow I was blessed that way. My member was so appreciative of the food – it filled her front porch. I let her know that the food came from the Heart Ministry Center food pantry. Kudos to you, your staff and volunteers for the job you do and the food you were able to provide. Thanks again!!”
It is because of our volunteers that we were able to enrich Becky’s experience, and help our clients get the food they need to survive. Volunteers are such a huge part of our mission. One of our core values at the Center is community and we invite everyone to be part of our mission.
